INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR: “TOWARDS SMART SUSTAINABLE CITIES – INTEGRATED APPROACHES”

In the context of the EXPO 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan, themed “Energy of the Future”, an International Seminar took place at Nazarbayev University titled “Towards Smart Sustainable Cities – Integrated Approaches”. The event took place on the 15th and the 16th of June 2017 and it brought together multiple academics from Switzerland and Kazakhstan to present research results, exchange ideas and discuss possible collaboration pathways around topics like Smart Energy Systems, Smart Transportation, Smart Buildings, and Smart Governance and Policy-Making.

The participation of SCCER researchers to the International Seminar was possible via funding provided by the Swiss Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI). As a result, members of SCCER CREST, FURIES and FEEB&D were able to attend the seminar. The SCCER FEEB&D was represented by Dr. Georgios Mavromatidis from the Chair of Building Physics, ETH Zurich.

The Seminar participants had also the opportunity to visit the EXPO site in Astana. By visiting the different country pavilions, participants were informed about the energy innovation that comes from each country and were able to understand how specific conditions in each country guide and form their energy transitions.

More information on the event and the participants’ presentations can be found here.
