To achieve the goals of the energy strategy it is crucial that new energy-efficient building and district (EEB&D) technologies are implemented at large scale. While work package 3 focuses on the technological potential, this work package focuses on the required speed of diffusion of EEB&D technologies.
However, research on technology diffusion and energy-efficiency has shown that the diffusion of novel energy-efficient building (EEB) technologies has historically been considerably slower than required to achieve the energy strategy goals. Reasons for the slow diffusion are manifold and differ across technologies, their characteristics and along the diffusion phase.
Focusing on the technologies developed in work packages 1 and 2 and providing information about determinants of technology diffusion to work package 3, this work package concentrate on how to overcome these barriers:
- By accelerating the diffusion of EEB technologies
- By facilitating the diffusion of renewable decentralized energy systems
- By supporting business model innovation for FEEB&D
